     Hello my name is Avery Buttermore. I'm gonna say from the start I'm terrible at these introductions. The thing I enjoy most during my free time is video games on the computer and most would say I play to much of them. Some other things I enjoy doing are reading manga, watching Youtube, and Netflix.

My Senior Photo

      The theme of a younger child struggling against social norms. It stood out to me due to Esperanza not wanting to just be another woman trapped in a window. For me I've seen people struggle for that sense of individuality and not want to be tied down. My favorite line so far would have to be "I would've liked to have known her, a wild horse of a woman, so wild she wouldn't marry." I like that quote due to it tying back into the theme of not wanting to be tied down and trapped.

     My name is Zion Jackson i'm from Marion Ohio I went to Harding high school, i'm majoring in special needs education I wanted to major in special needs education because I like helping people and my brother is special needs and so I like learning how specials needs people learn and there is a need for help for teachers that work with special Ed. Fun fact about me is when I was a freshmen and sophomore I tore both of my ACL and I had to rehab for those two years so I was out from sports till the beginning of my junior year of basketball season

I connect with the book because the girl in the book is trying to escape her life and leave the house she lives in and i'm going to college so i can leave Marion and get a good job and my own house. 

Journal Two Emaleigh Haimerl

Hi my name is Emaleigh Haimerl but I go by Ema. Some things to know about me are that I like to paint and hang out with my boyfriend. During the week besides school during the week I also hangout with my family and then on the weekends I go hangout with my boyfriend and his family. Some fun facts about me are that I love to read murder mystery's and hang out with family and my boyfriend. And when i'm not doing either of those I am watching movies/shows on Netflix.

The theme that has stood out to me in The House On Mango Street is you don’t always get what you want. I feel like this is important because Esperanza talked about their dream house they would own with running water and pipes, real stairs, a big yard, etc. and they didn’t get that house, they got a small house with “windows so small you’d think they were holding their breath.” (Cisneros, 1984) I have experienced this theme in my life by currently trying to build a home and something keeps going wrong so we can’t move into our home until next year now and we have to rent a house until our home is built. My favorite passage from the book is “my hair is lazy. It never obeys barrettes or bands.” (Cisneros, 1984) This is my favorite quote because my hair is like this and unless I dry it and straighten it, it does nothing I want and just curls.

Journal Two

Hello! My name is Madi Conrad. A fun fact about me is I have a 4 1/2 year old half brother. I also commute to school from Delaware, OH which is about 20-30 minutes south of Marion. I first moved to Ohio when I was 3 after my parent’s became divorced. I was born in Michigan, but I will always be a proud Buckeye fan! I am a huge sports fan but, hockey is my all time favorite because I grew up with a dad who used to coach hockey and ice skating. So, I quickly became very interested in watching the sport and I have even considered playing the sport as well.

The theme that has stood out to me most in the book The House on Mango Street is that life is not about what you can afford, but your attitude about the situation. I feel this is important because people in modern day society tend to judge people before they get to know them, based on how they dress or what they can afford. I witness this theme on an everyday basis. I have seen people judge others based on the things they own without even getting to know the person. I am also guilty of judging others before getting to know them. One of my favorite passages from this reading is Hairs. This is because I am intrigued how in depth the author goes about the details her mother’s hair while everyone else has only a sentence or two written describing their hair and what it is like.

My name is Robert (Bobby) Vitek. I'm 18 and I'm big in sports. My major is in athletic training. Baseball is my favorite sport along with football. I am very interested in all sports, I greew up around sports because my dad has coached basically everything. My dad started the travel softball team "The Diamonds". I collect old sports equipment. I was born and raised here in Marion. I love going to VA for vacation.

The house on Mango I can connect with a little. I've moved a little bit around in Marion. I have lived in a few houses and also had to live a week at this persons house or that persons.

Journal Two Marissa Hardin

My name is Marissa, I am from Marengo, Ohio which is about 30 minutes from campus. I enjoy driving. Recently, my friends moved up to Bowling Green and Kent for college, and I will probably drive up there a lot to visit, both are about 2 hour drives. Also, I love going on adventures with my friends, and my dog. I also enjoy going to concerts, and music in general. My favorite artists are Khalid, Frank Ocean, Shawn Mendes, Mac Miller, and many more.

The theme that sticks out to me the most in The House On Mango Street is, change. Esperanza is always moving from house to house, making new friends everywhere she moves, and changing everything in her life. This is important, because change can be good, it doesn’t always have to be scary. I have experienced changes in my life a few times. I have moved houses 8 years ago, and started over. A new house, a new school, and new people in my life. Now, I am starting college and starting over again, for my future, which is a great thing. Change can be exciting. My favorite passage from the book is, “I would like to baptize myself under a new name, a name more like the real me, the one nobody sees.”  P.11 I like this line because it is real.  I haven’t really read anything that has real stories, and real thoughts. I really like that people can relate to this, and it sounds powerful.

Robert Nicol Journal 2

Greeting my name is Robert. I’m 18 and am a freshman going to the collage for my degree in criminology. I moved to Marion from Marysville with my girlfriend . We both go to south and share our degree we both love art and gaming. I Love to cook and play piano music , tho I am unable to read sheet music I can play multiple songs.

The theme of “disbelief” The idea of being so used to peoples telling you one thing but it never coming true and just feeling let down. Not  the idea of people living  but rather their idea of them trying but not succeeding.

I feel this is important because I think this is kinda something we can all relate to and understand. They idea of being told one think and it not work out and feeling just a bit down about it. 

“Wooden bars papa had nailed on the window so we wouldn’t fall out”(5) I like this quote because it shows how her family really does care about therm there just in a bad way with money and there trying to get by and takes care of their family
