Journal Two
Hello, Class! My name is Abby Archer and I am 18 years old. I currently live in Powell, Ohio and I’ve lived here for my whole life. My major is health sciences in hopes to become an Occupational Therapist. I have worked with special needs kids ever since I was in elementary school and I have loved spending time with the kids ever since. I am also very passionate about powerlifting. It’s something my dad and I do together and it’s such an exciting sport. I love spending time with my friends and family as well as going to music festivals and traveling during the summer time.
This is my Nephew, Wyatt.

In the book, “The House on Mango Street”  the theme that stood out to me the most was the dreams, hopes and plans. I feel that this theme is important because it shows how hopeful and determined the family is even though their living conditions is not what they’ve always dreamed it would be. I relate to their dream of having a beautiful house and a successful lifestyle.  One day I would like to be able to afford a house and to be able to have a successful life. That’s part of the reason why I am going to college to get my degree and a job that will be able to support me.

  1. Abby, thanks for your post and I think the dream of home ownership is complicated and changing all the time. The expense of a mortgage now is making people in your generation, and all generations, rethink what suitable housing is, and what is affordable. I don't know if you are familiar with the Tiny House movement but it is in direct response to the pressures that owning a home can cause. It is so great to have a big house and all that comes with it, and I know why Esperanza wants it, but I think the concept is fluid and changing with the times now.
