Journal 9- Jacob Francis

Part one- My research question I chose to investigate was: What are the qualifications to be a funeral director? I found that in order to be a funeral director you must at least have an associates degree in mortuary science, a license to be a funeral director/ embalmer, and one to three years of apprenticeship. https://study.com/articles/How_to_Become_a_Mortician_Education_and_Career_Roadmap.html

Part two- The story that I had a connection to was funeral director Don Byles (p. 60-63). I had a connection with this story because my great uncle actually is a funeral director. My great uncle doesn't really like to talk about his job, because at points it is very hard to deal with. Don Byles story helped shed some light on what my great uncle goes through on a daily basis. This story helped me understand my uncle and increased my respect for him. I know that some of the things he's seen have effected him, and i can understand why.

  1. Funeral directors have a difficult job. At the most recent funeral the director was very respectful and had 2 funerals going on at the same time and balanced it out well and gave each groups of people there time with their loved ones.

  2. Hey Jacob! I can definitely understand why your great uncle doesn't want to speak much about his job because of the circumstance he goes through.

  4. Hey Jacob! I also did my research question on a funeral director and found out what they did. It's awesome that they help families and make sure that their wishes are fulfilled. The tough part is when families are struggling, the funeral director helps them as a counselor. I'm glad that you are able to understand your uncle now.
