Journal Eight Teylar

The Steno- Alphabet

The profile about Storm Reyes is the one that meant the most to me. It means a lot to me because Reyes was raised in a pretty hostile environment and had no hopes, dreams or aspirations for his future. He overcame that by reading books that interested him. He was determined not to be a product of his environment.

This profile kind of reminds me of myself because I grew up in a really bad neighborhood. I didn’t really know what I wanted to do with my life. I did not have any hopes or dreams honestly. I just knew that I wanted to do hair and that I was really good at it. So I chose that route and it turned out pretty well for me.

For my active reading I researched what a stenographer was because I honestly did not know what it was. I found out that it is the person who types up everything people say in court. That was interesting to me because I honestly didn’t know that you had to go to college and get a degree for that, I thought you just had to be really good at typing but , you have to learn a certain alphabet called the Gregg alphabet. It basically lets you shorthand words.

  1. Hey Teylar! I really enjoyed reading your post! I love that Storm Reyes didn't give up and found books to get out of the environment he was in. I'm glad that you found your passion in hair and I think that amazing.

  3. Hey Teylar! I had never understood that there was a steno alphabet for stenographers. I am really glad that you included this because it helped educate me on more of what a stenographer does.
