R.U.F.

The R.U.F. (Revolutionary United Front) is a rebel army group that fought an eleven year war in Sierra Leone, which started in 1991 and ended in 2002. But now today it is a political party that started in 2003. There were three senior surviving leaders that were convicted in February 2009 for war crimes and crimes against humanity. The R.U.F. recruited child soldiers to get the numbers on their side against the national army of Sierra Leone. Mostly all the kids were threatened or forced to join the R.U.F. The group claimed 50,000 lives and displaced approximately two million people. The group was known for recruiting kids into its ranks and raping and maiming its victims.

  1. I think its interesting that the RUF now has a political party that is active after the crimes they committed.

  2. The numbers truly make me disgusted. So many stories like Beah's were caused because of this group and now they call themselves a political party.

  3. I think the number of people is ridiculous and I feel like they should not have a political party because of all of the crimes they have committed.

  4. Forcing children into the R.U.F and exposing them to the traumatic experiences is really bad for their physical and mental health. It hurts my heart that these kids are living in a country like this.

  5. I find it really shocking how the RUF forced kids to be in the war... They haven't had the chance to be free, careless kids. Now, they have to fight for their lives.
